Cultivating Mental Discipline:

Mindfulness and Insight

Summer 2022

The Satipatthana Sutta (also known as the four foundations of mindfulness) provides the instructions for “the direct path for the realization of Nibbana”, nirvana. This Sutta describes the Buddha’s step by step instructions for meditators to lead a life “free from cravings and discontent”. It identifies the things to notice in order to cultivate the mental discipline needed to gain these abilities. .

Bhikkhu Analayo’s commentary, “Satipatthana – the direct path of realization” brings the Sutta to life by a scholarly analysis of the nuanced meanings and instructions in the Sutta. This class will be based on the insights from this book..
